This post originated from our 1000,000th FLMI celebration that took place in 2015. In honor of Life Insurance Awareness Month this year, we'd like to share this story with you.

One thing we like hearing from FLMI designees is that the knowledge gained is truly useful in their work. After all, isn't that what it's really all about? The practical application of knowledge is an important reason that people take the time and effort to study for LOMA exams and is central to why their companies encourage them to pursue LOMA education. Thanks to Matthew and Lucy for sending in their comments:

I started taking courses toward my FLMI a few years after I started working at Transamerica. I completed all ten courses within a couple years, which also led to me pursuing and completing several other LOMA designations along the way. While my employer provided bonus incentives for taking the courses and earning designations, I have definitely found a personal reward in taking and completing the courses as well.

Through all of the various projects and duties I have had over the years, it has been amazing how much I have been able to apply the knowledge I have gained from taking the LOMA courses. There has been more than one situation where I have been working on a particular task and think to myself “Oh yeah! I learned this during a FLMI course!”

I find the courses all to be rewarding, and recommend them to anyone in the insurance industry. I know I will continue to take them too.

I was hired by a large insurance company as a registered nurse because of my extensive cardiac background, familiarity of EKG interpretation and handling complex cardiac patients. I had absolutely NO CLUE about the Life insurance industry.

Studying for and completing the LOMA exams taught me valuable insurance industry processes, law, financial services, risk management—the list goes on. I am so grateful that I had the access and opportunity to learn as much as I did through the LOMA program! I can now customize interpretations and reports in the context of Life insurance.
