Important Updates to LOMA Designation Courses, Effective January 4, 2027
To improve and simplify the process of enrolling and administering LOMA designations, and to create a more consistent and equitable learner experience across all LOMA courses, we are making several changes to our designation course offerings.
The following changes will take effect beginning January 4, 2027:
- One course offering – two exam options. Currently, learners pursuing the Level 1 Certificate, the ALMI, or the ACS designations must choose between two courses for each program requirement, depending on their preferred (or employer-required) exam format. Effective January 4, there will be only one course for each requirement; learners (or their Ed Reps) will choose at time of enrollment either the self-proctored exam experience or the proctored exam experience for that course.
- Three timed self-proctored exam attempts. For Level 1, ALMI, ACS, AIRC, and SRI courses, the self-proctored exam experience will shift from unlimited attempts to three attempts per module exam. For courses at the FLMI level, the number of self-proctored exam attempts will increase from two to three. Proctored exams will continue to offer one exam attempt. In all cases, exams will be subject to time limits.
- New course numbers. The changes described above represent a “reboot” for LOMA designation courses, creating an opportunity to update our course number schema as well. Effective January 4, new course numbers will include the “call letters” of the primary designation path in which a course lives, followed by a 4-digit number. The first digit – 1, 2, or 3 – indicates the “level” a course fits in. The second digit indicates the order in which LOMA recommends learners proceed within a given designation and level. For example, FLMI 1100 is the first course within the first level of the FLMI program … followed by FLMI 1200.
Impact on currently enrolled learners: Learners enrolled prior to January 4, 2027, will have the full six-month course access period in which to complete their course requirements under the current exam requirements. A learner who fails to complete the course during this timeframe may be eligible to re-enroll in the course (using the new course number) at a reduced fee; however, they will lose their progress in the course under the previous enrollment, and their new enrollment will be subject to the new exam requirements. LOMA’s Registrar will be communicating this information to all students enrolled as of October 1, 2026.
Impact on learners in the designation pipeline: Learners who successfully completed courses under the old course numbers and exam requirements will automatically retain their credit toward LOMA designations.
