LOMA strives to update program content to reflect evolving industry practices and learner needs and preferences. As the gateway to foundational industry knowledge, Meeting Customer Needs with Insurance and Annuities (LOMA 281) is often the first step on a career development journey. As such, we have revised LOMA 281 in an ongoing process to keep the FLMI designation relevant, meaningful, and valuable to all learners throughout the financial services industry.
Will LOMA 281 be translated into other languages?
- LOMA 281 will be translated into French and Traditional Chinese, and learners enrolling in those languages will receive access to the newly revised course effective January 1, 2027. More information about the transition to the revised version in these languages will come later this year.
Are all courses in the FLMI designation program being revised?
- All LOMA designation courses are on a regular revision schedule. Improving the Bottom Line: Insurance Company Operations (LOMA 291) is the next course scheduled for revision and should be available in 2027/2028.
When will the LOMA 281 (English) revision be available to learners?
- Effective July 1, 2026, all learners enrolling in LOMA 281 (English) will receive access to the newly revised course.
What is new in the revised LOMA 281?
- The revised version:
- Builds essential industry fluency by explaining why insurance matters, how it works, and the critical role it plays in financial security, economic stability, and everyday life.
- Turns learning into action with guided Enrichment Activities that deepen understanding and spark meaningful conversations about how insurance concepts apply inside learners’ own organizations.
- Covers the full insurance landscape by connecting customer needs to life, health, and annuity products across retail and workplace markets — including how insurers generate value and manage risk.
- Engages learners through real‑world insight using expert interviews, visual explanations, and interactive design to bring insurance concepts to life—locally and globally.
What does this change in course assignment mean for learners currently enrolled in LOMA 281 (English)?
- Learners enrolled in the current English version of LOMA 281 prior to July 1, 2026, will have the full six-month course access period available to them to complete the course with that assigned content.
- If learners enrolled in LOMA 281 (English) before July 1, 2026 fail to complete the course by the end of their course access period, and if their access period expires after July 1, 2026, they may be eligible to re-enroll in LOMA 281 at a reduced fee; however, they will be reenrolled in the revised version of LOMA 281 and will have to restart the course from the beginning. No progress will be saved. See Extending Course Access.
