Nomination-only executive development program equips senior leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to continue to transform the financial services industry

WINDSOR, Conn., Sept. 8, 2022—Earlier this summer the first cohort of industry leaders attended the new Strategic Leadership Experience program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Penn.

A total of 94 leaders from 55 LIMRA and LOMA member companies came together to learn from industry experts and Wharton School faculty on topics including critical thinking, key industry issues and trends, how to build high-performing teams, marketing strategy and more.

“We created this program in response to feedback from our member companies, who endorsed the idea of an industry-specific development experience designed to give leaders a more strategic perspective on our business,” said David Levenson, president and CEO, LIMRA and LOMA.

The session, held July 18–22 at Wharton, is the first of three gatherings the students will attend. This cohort of leaders will return to Wharton in July of 2023 and 2024 for two additional sessions on other topics that are critical to the industry’s success, and will then graduate with a LIMRA and LOMA Wharton certificate. Starting this fall, a second group of leaders, limited to 100 participants, will start the process.

Executives from leading financial services companies ― including Blackstone, Everlake, Jackson National, McKinsey, MetLife, Nationwide and PwC ― shared their perspective on the session’s topics, and answered questions from the group. All sessions included opportunities for discussions with peers from other companies, lines of business, and functional areas to gain a broader perspective on the financial services industry.

“Based on the positive feedback we’ve already received from this year’s group, we’re optimistic that this program is on its way to becoming a key element of our member companies’ executive development efforts for many years to come,” Levenson said.
