Insurance Immersion Instructors

U.S. Program


The facilitator for the program is a LOMA staff person and life insurance industry expert who will act as the master of ceremonies for the program by providing logistical information to participants and instructors, introducing instructors, presenting portions of the program content, and managing the classroom environment.

LOMA’s facilitators will be responsible for

  • ensuring that class sessions progress smoothly
  • answering participant questions about basic program concepts
  • managing the time so that sessions run on schedule
  • leading activities by providing instructions and guidelines for participants

Barbara F. Brown, FLMI, ACS, AIAA, AIRC

Barbara is Director of Instructor-Led Training in LOMA’s Education and Training division. She is responsible for managing the content, instructional design, and delivery of LOMA’s instructor-led training (ILT) programs. Prior to leading the ILT program, Barbara worked as an Insurance Immersion facilitator and helped develop LOMA textbooks and online interactive courses, including LOMA 320: Life Insurance Marketing and LOMA 302: The Policy Lifecycle: Insurance Administration. She has worked in the development, design, and delivery of education and training products for 8 years, with prior experience in business magazine publishing. Barbara is a graduate of the University of Florida.


Cindy Henry is a senior associate in LOMA’s Education and Training division. In this capacity, Cindy is responsible for developing custom learning solutions for LOMA member companies. In addition, she facilitates LOMA’s Insurance Immersion program. In more than 25 years of experience with LOMA, Cindy has had responsibilities in financial planning and control, examinations development, and member solutions. Cindy is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Jennifer Herrod, FLMI, PCS, AIAA, PAHM, ARA, AIRC

Jen is Director of Learning Content in LOMA’s Education and Training division. Jen is responsible for overseeing E&T’s content development efforts. She has enjoyed facilitating LOMA’s Insurance Immersion program for the past 5 years. Jen has scripted and developed lessons in online interactive courses including SRI 111: The Retirement Marketplace, SRI 131: Planning for a Secure Retirement, and SRI 210: Successful Retirement Outcomes. She has also co-authored textbooks such as Life Insurance Marketing, Reinsurance Administration, and Claim Administration. Jen has 10 years of classroom teaching experience. She is a graduate of Bowdoin College.

Melanie Luna, M.Ed., FLMI, AIRC, ACS

Melanie is an Associate in LOMA’s Education and Training division. She facilitates LOMA’s Insurance Immersion program and Virtual Immersion program. Melanie also develops and writes content for LOMA’s online interactive courses and course portals, most recently contributing to LOMA 302: The Policy Lifecycle: Insurance Administration. Melanie has a background in technical writing, college instruction, and adult education. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia.

Monica R. Maxwell, JD, FLMI, AIRC, ARA, AAPA

Monica is a Senior Associate in LOMA’s Education and Training division. She currently facilitates LOMA’s Insurance Immersion program and Virtual Immersion program. Monica also assists with designing and developing LOMA’s interactive online courses. She has over 10 years of experience in financial services services education and training. She is a graduate of Grambling State University where she earned her B.A. degree in English, and she later received her Juris Doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law.


The instructor is an industry expert who has considerable knowledge and experience in the area of the program for which he or she is responsible. The instructor’s role is to present a “real world” perspective by providing specific examples from personal experience to illustrate the industry concepts covered in the program. The instructor provides comments and feedback to participants during group activities and discussions.

Betty Broadway

Betty has over 23 years of experience in the insurance industry, including claims, customer service, new business, and underwriting. Her experience as a trainer includes designing, developing, and facilitating training classes and earning the professional designation, Master Facilitator of the MAGIC of Customer Relations Program. As a National and Regional Sales Trainer, Betty trained producers and managers in the field in selling voluntary benefits to businesses. Betty holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and a Masters of Arts in Computer Resource and Information Management from Webster University. She is a certified Wilson Sales Trainer.

Kevin Head, Ph.D., FLMI, FFSI, ACS

Kevin Head was most recently an AVP, Learning Product Management, in LOMA’s Education and Training division. He was responsible for representing the learning product area to internal partners and customers, promoting product knowledge, maximizing sales, and instructing in LOMA’s Insurance Immersion program. Prior to this role, Kevin was responsible for leading LOMA’s instructor-led training programs. He also worked on textbook projects, including Life and Health Insurance Marketing and Personal Financial Planning. Kevin brings more than 25 years of experience as a group facilitator and instructor to the Immersion program. Kevin earned a BA degree from Furman University and holds a Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in counseling.

Lin Ingram, CLU, ChFC, ACS

Lin Ingram has over 30 years of experience in the life insurance industry, most recently as Senior Vice President, Life Customer Service and Claims for the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. He has served on a number of industry committees and as the chair of LOMA's Education Council. Lin's insurance career has been focused on operational areas and he has managed customer service, claims, new business and underwriting, licensing/appointments, agent commission processing as well as continuous improvement. He has significant experience in assimilating operations from life insurance company mergers and acquisitions. He holds a BA in Economics from N.C. State University and an MBA from the University of N.C. at Greensboro.

Kevin Moyer, FLMI, ACS, MBA

Kevin Moyer has over 25 years of experience in business operations leadership and consulting, including call centers, transaction processing, and mail and scanning operations. His competencies have spanned the insurance, financial services, independent brokerage, and healthcare landscapes. He is a recognized industry conference speaker on topics such as Leadership Development and Operations Management. He has served on various LOMA committees, the Dalbar Advisory Board, and the National Association of Variable Annuities (NAVA) Operations Committee. He is also the founder of Career Perspective which provides career transition coaching.

David Parr, FLMI, FLHC

David Parr is a Life Underwriter for Genworth Financial and has over 20 years of insurance and financial services experience. Prior to joining Genworth, David was the Director of Business Development for LOMA from 2006 to 2008, and prior to LOMA served in various operational leadership positions that spanned Underwriting and Claims for ING. He also served on the Georgia Claims Association Board from 2000–2005. David has a B.A. degree with honors from Georgia State University and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Human Resources from Kennesaw State University. He also has several insurance and financial service designations including FLMI and FLHC.

Marianne Purushotham, FSA, MAAA

Marianne Purushotham is a Corporate Vice President, Statistical Analysis and Modeling with LIMRA. Marianne directs the applications of statistical modeling and predictive analytics techniques to member benefits research. Marianne has a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Prior to joining LIMRA, Purushotham worked for Towers Watson where she consulted with clients on a variety of actuarial issues including product development, valuation, and financial reporting for individual life and annuity products.

Karen Terry, FLMI

Karen, who joined LIMRA in 1995, is a manager in the individual product research area which is responsible for research on individual life insurance and disability products in the U.S. and Canada. The Individual Product Research team conducts ongoing surveys on sales and marketing of individual products, and company practices studies that respond to the needs of LIMRA’s various constituencies. Karen serves as a resource on industry performance measures to LIMRA staff, member companies, and the media. In addition she is staff representative to LIMRA’s Canadian Living Benefits Study Group. Karen is a graduate of the University of Maryland.

Elaine F. Tumicki, CLU, ChFC, LLIF

Elaine Tumicki directs LIMRA’s Product Research team, which is responsible for research on individual and group life, health, disability, and long-term care products. The Product Research team conducts ongoing surveys on sales, persistency, and product design, as well as marketing studies and company practices studies that respond to the needs of LIMRA’s various constituencies. Elaine also serves as a resource on industry performance measures to LIMRA staff, member companies, and the media. She is staff representative to LIMRA’s Individual Life Insurance Study Group and DI/LTC Committee, and is a liaison to various other committees and study groups. Elaine is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

John W. Wells, CPA, FLMI, CLU

John was most recently President and CEO of Senior Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania, and prior to that President of Conseco Senior Health Insurance Company. He has also worked at Bankers Life, Mutual of Omaha, and Jefferson Pilot Financial. John’s insurance career of over 25 years has included all areas but has been primarily focused on operational areas including underwriting, new business, medical, customer service, claims, IT, human resources, and community relations. Wells holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Auburn University and earned his CPA designation and license from the State of Tennessee. His professional affiliations include the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) where he has dedicated much of his time to training and education issues, including serving on the LL Global, LIMRA, and LOMA Board of Directors and the Education & Training Council. He is also a volunteer consultant for SCORE, a non-profit dedicated to the success of small businesses nationwide.
