LOMA eases calculator requirements for exam use

What's Different

Starting January 1, 2019, students taking LOMA exams can use any basic four-function calculator, as long as it provides no internet access or other special features or functions. Calculators aren't necessary to pass LOMA exams, but we know some students like to have them handy, and the new rules should make it easier to make them available.

Examination proctors will still inspect all calculators in the testing room to ensure they meet LOMA’s specifications. We recommend that company proctors maintain a supply of pre-approved, four-function calculators for student use during the exam.

Acceptable calculators offer:

  • Basic four functions (+ / - / × / ÷)
  • Square root function (√ )
  • Solar or battery power

If you still have official LOMA calculators around, rest assured—they meet all the requirements!

What's Not

Some things never change — students may not use cell phones or internet-accessible devices at any time during the exam.
