Coming in October: Self-proctored SRI 500 exam

 Permanent link

To successfully complete SRI 500—Transforming Retirement Security, learners must pass a comprehensive examination (Step 2 of the course completion requirements).

Historically, this exam has only been offered as a proctored I*STAR exam, which means learners whose I*STAR center is closed haven’t been able to complete their course requirements. That’s why we’re making the SRI 500 exam available in our self-proctored format!

If you wish to take the proctored form of this exam via I*STAR at your company or at a Prometric testing site, you must do so by 6:00 pm Eastern Time on September 30, 2020. If an enrolled student does not complete the proctored exam by September 30, they will automatically be re-enrolled in the course with a self-proctored exam requirement, which will be available starting October 5, 2020.

When is all this happening?

The key dates for the change are:

  • September 30, 2020 — The SRI 500 proctored exam will be discontinued. The I*STAR and Prometric versions of the SRI 500 exam will no longer be available after this date.
  • October 1–4, 2020 — Blackout period with no access to the course. During this time, we will migrate the learner’s enrollment from the proctored exam (I*STAR or Prometric) version to a new self-proctored version. Any progress already made on the course up to this point will be saved.
  • October 5, 2020 — The SRI 500 Course Portal will be re-opened, and learners will have access to the course and the new self-proctored version of the exam for an additional 6 months.
What is changing?

Beginning October 5, 2020, the Step 2 exam will be delivered in a self-proctored format only.

  • Learners will access the self-proctored exam directly through the Course Portal.
  • The self-proctored exam will be timed (80 minutes, which is the equivalent of 2 minutes per question).
  • To pass the exam, the learner must achieve a 70%+ score within two attempts.

If a learner does not successfully complete the exam in two attempts, they will be required to re-enroll for the course. However, they will retain credit for any progress already made on Step 1 and Step 3 of the course requirements.

What will happen to my current enrollment if I don't take the proctored exam by September 30?

You'll still be enrolled, but your exam format will change. There will be a short black-out period while we migrate everyone's enrollments to the new version.

By October 5, affected learners will

  • be re-enrolled in the course at no additional cost,
  • receive a new 6-month course access period,
  • receive a new enrollment confirmation email, and
  • see their new expiration date in the Upcoming Learning section of their learning record in LOMA’s learning system.
Does this affect the content of SRI 500?

No, there are no changes to the SRI 500 course content. Also, there are no changes to Step 1 (online learning experience with knowledge check) or Step 3 (completion of the written assignments).

Will there be extra costs associated with the self-proctored exam?

No, there will not be any additional charges to take the self-proctored exam. In addition, if the learner originally enrolled for the Prometric testing option, the Prometric fee paid will be refunded.
