LOMA’s
1996 Insurance Education Award Winner
(from Resource
magazine, September 1996)
Walter A.
Sivek, FLMI, CLU, is the 1996 recipient of
LOMA’s highest educational honor, the
Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI)
Insurance Education Award.
First granted
in 1979, the award recognizes individuals for
their contributions to insurance education
and, especially, the FLMI Program. Sivek
becomes the 12th recipient of this
honor. He will receive the award later this
month at LOMA’s Annual Conference and FLMI
Conferment in San Francisco.
In announcing
this year’s award winner, William H. Rabel,
Ph.D., FLMI, CLU, senior vice president, LOMA’s
Education Division, said, "Walter Sivek
has made many contributions to LOMA’s FLMI
Program, where his dedication to quality work
made him an invaluable business colleague and
friend. His deep sense of commitment to the
insurance industry and LOMA’s education
have had a lasting effect on LOMA and its
FLMI Societies. In many respects he is the
‘father’ of the modern FLMI professional
movement." Sivek served on LOMA’s
Education Council from 1976–79, led a task
force that conducted an in-depth evaluation
of all aspects of the association’s
relationships with FLMI Societies, and
prepared the report, An Analysis of the
Role and Governance of FLMI Societies. He
also served as chairman of the first FLMI
Society Committee.
Sivek retired
as vice president, Corporate Planning, at
Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company.
