Life Insurers Council Annual Meeting Addresses the Future of Insurance Regulation

Atlanta, March 29, 2005 Insurers are struggling to expand their markets and to make a decent return on their investments, and the issues discussed at the LIC Annual Meeting, held May 12-15, 2005 in Scottsdale, Ariz., may make or break success in the future for some insurers. Executives from all types of insurance companies will learn the latest information critical to all companies competing in today’s regulatory, legislative, and business climates.

Any company doing business in the U.S. should be present at the meeting’s main event, the Commissioners Roundtable, said Scott Cipinko, J.D., AIRC, Executive Director, LIC. “The commissioners that are scheduled to speak are among those who truly have the ability to shape the way insurance is regulated,” said Cipinko. “This session not only provides unique insight into the work of these commissioners and the NAIC, but also provides an opportunity to ask them tough questions directly.”

Roundtable Insurance Commissioners include M. Diane Koken, NAIC President and Pennsylvania Commissioner; Jim Poolman, Chairman of the Life Insurance and Annuities Committee and North Dakota Insurance Commissioner; and Walter Bell, Chairman of the Small Face Amount Life Insurance Study Group and Alabama Insurance Commissioner. Bell is also responsible for implementing Interstate Compact national standards.

Topics addressed at the meeting include:

  • Can State Insurance Regulation be Fixed?
  • Actuarial Issues: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You
  • Technology and the Niche Market Company

Discounted registration fees are available through April 15. To view the full program information or for registration information, visit http://www.loma.org/LICannual.asp.
