Sims Appointed Executive Director of 
Life Insurers Council

March 28, 2006— Atlanta , Georgia —The Board of Directors of the Life Insurers Council (LIC) announces Michael H. Sims will begin his term as executive director on April 3, 2006.

Sims is currently of counsel with Woodward, Hobson & Fulton in Louisville , KY. His practice concentration includes insurance regulatory law, administrative law, commercial litigation, contracts, arbitration and general business law. Sims served as the former general counsel and secretary of United Insurance Company of America , a Unitrin subsidiary, and Providian Corporation. He is the former president of Reliable Life Insurance Company and a former adjunct professor at the University of Louisville Law School. Sims chaired the Laws and Legislation Committee for the LIC from 1993-1996.

"The appointment of Mike Sims as executive director of the LIC is in recognition of his extensive legal experience and many contributions to the life insurance industry,” stated Alan W. Feagin, president and chief executive officer, Assurant Preneed, chairman of the LIC. “With increasing regulations and compliance issues impacting LIC members, his experience will prove invaluable as executive director.”

Founded in 1910 and a council of LOMA since 1997, the Life Insurers Council (LIC) serves its members through promoting standards of business conduct which are in the best interests of policyholders; representing its members by addressing legislative, regulatory and consumer issues; and providing a forum for the interchange of ideas for the betterment of the public and the insurance industry.
