Overview
The Programa de Formación en
Seguros de LOMA (PFSL) provides students with the knowledge, self-confidence and
professional skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive environment. PFSL
offers courses that are recognized by professionals in the insurance industry
around the globe. Students:
- Learn skills that apply directly to their job in the
insurance and financial services industry.
- Focus on important concepts by using study aids
included with the material.
- Study at their own pace and complete courses in any
order.
- Take exams at your office – there is no need to
travel.
- Earn recognition for their educational achievement.
Completing the first two courses, earns the Level One certificate. When all
six courses are complete, the student earns the PFSL designation.
Thousands of industry employees at all levels take
advantage of LOMA as an information resource. In a typical year, employees
enroll for more than 100,000 examinations in LOMA’s training and education
programs. One of LOMA’s most widely known programs is the FLMI, which offers
courses in French and Traditional
and Simplified Chinese, Korean,
Bahasa Indonesia, and Portuguese,
in addition to English. As you
will see below, the PFSL includes some courses that are equivalent to the FLMI.
One of the strengths of LOMA's programs is their practical
content. Each course is developed under the guidance of an impressive panel of
practicing professionals in the insurance and financial services industry. Their
expertise ensures that the study material will be up to date and meaningful to
the job and career of today's students.

(equivalent to LOMA 280)
Introduction to the principles of becoming insured and the
policyowner’s contractual rights. Also covered is information on the features
of individual and group life insurance, health insurance and annuity products.

(equivalent to LOMA 290)
Description of insurance companies and the environment in
which they operate, focusing on specific company operations such as marketing,
actuarial, underwriting and financial services.

Description of insurance administration activities
involved in individual and group like and health insurance and annuities,
focusing on underwriting, reinsurance, claims and policyowner service.

Marketing principles and the functions of marketing as an
integral aspect of the life and health insurance industry.

A solid base of knowledge in understanding customer
service concepts and strategies, building a customer service culture, developing
a customer service strategy, understanding customers and customer service
research, establishing and measuring the performance of customer service
systems, and developing customer service staff.

356 Fundamentos de Inversión e Inversión Institucional
(equivalent
to LOMA 356)
Provides an understanding of the investment environment and the general
principles of investing in both, individual securities and portfolios of
securities. In this course, you will learn about investment performance
reporting, investment performance monitoring, and investment performance
analysis. The course discusses setting and implementing investment goals
in light of the risk-return tradeoff and provides an orientation to investments
in an institutional environment, including roles of investment professionals,
investment information systems, investment accounting, investment controls,
investment compliance, management of general account and separate account
portfolios, and marketing of investment services to institutional clients. You
will see examples of formal portfolio strategies, portfolio diversification
requirements, and codes of ethics for investment professionals.
