Education
Award
(from Resource magazine,
November/December 1985)
In the general
session, the 1985 Insurance Education Award
was presented to Frank L. Rowland. This award
is presented to an individual who has made an
outstanding contribution to insurance
education.
Rowland,
co-founder of LOMA (along with Franklin B.
Mead), became the association’s secretary,
a member of the board of directors, and later
was executive secretary and managing
director.
As outlined by
LOMA’s new chairman, John J. Marakas,
president of Nationwide Life, Rowland
participated in every major decision
concerning LOMA from its inception in 1924
until his retirement in 1956. This included
the formation of an education program for
non-technical, non-sales life insurance
company employees, now known as the highly
successful FLMI program—the world’s
largest university-level professional
education program.
Accepting the award was Rowland’s son, Don
Rowland, FLMI, assistant vice president,
Mutual of New York, who read a statement
given by his father.
