Donald E. Joslin, FLMI,
AALU, president and CEO, Monitor Life
Insurance Company of New York, Utica, NY, is
the 1994 recipient of LOMA’s highest
educational honor—the FLMI (Fellow, Life
Management Institute) Insurance Award.
First granted in 1979,
the award recognizes individuals for their
contribution to insurance education in
general and LOMA’s FLMI Program in
particular. Joslin, who joined Monitor Life
in 1979, becomes the 10th
recipient of this honor.
The award, to be given
in a ceremony at LOMA’s 71st
Annual Conference this month in San Antonio,
recognizes Joslin’s direction in the
development of several LOMA textbooks (the
1984 edition of Principles of Life and
Health Insurance the 1985 book, Underwriting
in Life and Health Insurance) as well as
his guidance in the implementation of the
LOMA Education Council’s strategic plan and
development of the popular ACS (Associate in
Customer Service) program.
Additionally, Joslin
has served as chairman of LOMA’s Education
Council (1990-92), chairman of the
association’s Curriculum Committee
(1986-89), and was on the association’s
board of directors.
In announcing this year’s
award winner, William H. Rabel, Ph.D., FLMI,
CLU, senior vice president of LOMA’s
Education Division, said, "Don’s
greatest service has been to LOMA’s FLMI
Insurance Education Program, where his
deeply-felt commitment to professional
education let him to volunteer for a wide
variety of projects and activities. Always a
leader and a team player, his insights,
wisdom and work have had a profound and
lasting effect on LOMA and its
programs."
Surprised and honored
that he was the recipient of this year’s
FLMI Insurance Education Award, Joslin
stated, "Our industry has always placed
a high value on education. It’s fortunate
to have an association which continually
meets the challenges of education in our
fast-changing environment. LOMA has been able
to achieve this through the effective
interaction of an exceptionally competent and
professional staff, and remarkably dedicated
industry participants.
"It is also
reflective of our industry’s generous
support, and particularly my company’s, for
the proven programs that enhance our service
to the public. To be recognized from among
the many who have made LOMA’s education
programs the premier programs they are is,
indeed, an honor."
