Study Materials PPDF
Frequently Asked Questions
General PPDF — Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Protected PDF (PPDF)?
Like other PDFs, a protected PDF—or PPDF—(protected portable document format) allows a document to be sent electronically and viewed and printed as the sender meant it to be viewed and printed. However, the PPDF is different from other PDFs in that it is "locked" and can only be accessed by authorized users.
Why did LOMA create their study materials in a PPDF format?
LOMA created the PPDFs of textbooks so learners could receive easier access to LOMA's study materials and companies could save money by no longer paying shipping and handling fees. Creating PDFs of the study materials is also better for the environment.
What study materials are available in PPDFs?
We now have electronic files for some LOMA textbooks and Test Preparation Guides. Most Spanish, Chinese, French and several English language study materials are now available in an electronic format with each course enrollment. The PPDFs can be reviewed on-line or can be printed from a secured website. Commercial textbooks are not currently available in PPDF format. For specific products please consult LOMA’s Education & Training Catalog.
Who will receive access to the PPDFs?
Ed Reps at regular and affiliate LOMA member companies that accept LOMA's Electronic Library Licensing Agreement, accessible through the Ed Rep's LOMANET account, and learners who enroll in the courses with PPDFs will receive access.
Can Ed Reps of non-member companies receive access to the PPDFs?
Can Ed Reps at LOMA reciprocal member companies receive access to the PPDFs?
What is the cost of the PPDFs for the textbooks and test preparation guides?
The price of the PPDFs is included with your course enrollment.
What are the technical requirements for access to the study materials?
You will need Internet access to download the PPDFs and Adobe Reader or Acrobat (version 6.0.1 or later) to view and print the PPDFs. Please note that portable readers such as the Sony eReader do not have the full versions of Adobe Reader or Acrobat and usually have trouble reading these PPDFs. PPDFs are not compatible with Internet Explorer 10.
How long does it take to download the materials?
It depends on the speed of your computer and Internet connection as well as the size of the files for a particular course, so we cannot give you a typical download time. Some of the files may be somewhat large.
I downloaded a PPDF and, when I open the document, I'm being asked to log into the PPDF.
The PPDFs that LOMA is making available are protected PPDFs that require you to enter authentication credentials to unlock them. Your authentication credentials are your LOMANET login ID (your Ed Rep ID, Learner Number, or LOMANET alias) and LOMANET Password. You must be connected to the Internet in order for your credentials to be verified against LOMA's server. The PPDF will then be unlocked so that you can view all pages in the PPDF.
What information is transmitted when I unlock a PPDF document?
Your login credentials and the document's ID are securely transmitted to LOMA's server in order to verify that you are the intended recipient of the document and that your credentials are valid. These credentials are encrypted to protect them during transmission.
Does the PPDF store a cookie?
Yes, in order to identify your computer amongst other computers, the PPDF does store an Adobe cookie which only contains a random key. This cookie behaves similarly to internet browser cookies but is stored and managed separately from your internet browser cookies.
Are the regular study materials still available for purchase from LOMA?
Some study materials are still available for purchase. Spanish, Chinese, and French materials will continue to be sold until the inventory is depleted or revised. All commercial textbooks are currently available only in print. Some English-language courses that are available in PPDF or PDF format may also offer you the additional option to purchase a printed book.
I have a copy of the textbook; can I enroll for the exam only?
The PPDF access will be available with course enrollment; enrollment is not available for the

Learners — PPDF Frequently Asked Questions
When will I receive access to the PPDF of the study materials?
Once you are enrolled for a course that contains study materials in PPDF, you will receive access. If the PPDFs are not associated with a Course Portal, an e-mail will be sent to you with a link to the PPDF site.
I did not receive an access notification e-mail.
A notification e-mail will not be sent if no PPDF study materials are associated with the course to download or if a Course Portal is available for the enrolled course.
If you enrolled for a course with PPDFs that is not associated with a Course Portal and did not get an access notification e-mail, you can go directly to the download site at https://ppdf.loma.org/download/.
How will I access the PPDFs?
If a Course Portal is not available, you will log into the PPDF download site with your LOMANET Learner ID or Alias and LOMANET Password.
What should I do if I forget my Learner ID and password?
You may use the Password Request button in LOMANET at www.lomanet.org to have a new password and your Learner ID e-mailed to you.
If I already have a copy of the textbook, do I still need to pay the additional fees for the PPDF?
Even if you have the textbook, you will be required to pay the full course enrollment fee, for which you will receive access to the PPDF.
If I cannot access the PPDF at work, can I access the study materials from home?
You can access the study materials on any computer that has the Adobe Reader or Acrobat (version 6.0.1 or later) software installed. An Internet connection is also required to unlock the PPDFs. You are allowed to access the PPDF materials on up to two (2) computers. PPDFs do not work on mobile devices. PPDFs are not compatible with Internet Explorer 10.

Can I print out the study materials in PPDF?
Yes, you are licensed to print one (1) copy.
What happens when the version of a textbook changes?
You will be given access to the correct textbooks based on your enrollment. Please consult LOMA’s Education & Training Catalog to ensure that you are aware of when textbooks are updated.
How long will I have access to the PPDFs?
You will have access to the PPDFs for a course that you are enrolled in until your exam period ends. Typically, for I*STAR and Prometric exams, this is the end of the quarter in which you are enrolled. For paper exams, it is typically the end of June for May exams or the end of December for November exams. You can receive access to the PPDF again once you purchase a fee transfer or re-enroll for the exam.
If there are several links for the study materials, do I need to study all of them?
Yes! Some study materials have been separated into several PPDFs in order to allow for smaller downloads on slower Internet connections. Be sure to study all of the assigned materials.
