Beadles
Receives Honors at Conference
(from Resource magazine,
November/December 1983)
William T.
Beadles, Ph.D., CLU, received the Life
Management Institute’s (LMI) insurance
education award at LOMA’s 60th
annual conference. LMI Council chairman
Harold W. Booth, FLMI, CLU, president and CEO
of Bankers Life Nebraska, presented the award
to Beadles on September 13 in Atlanta.
"The LMI’s
insurance education award is designed to
provide recognition to an individual who has
made an outstanding contribution to insurance
education in general and to the FLMI Program
in particular," Booth said. "On
behalf of the LMI Council, I am honored to
confer this award."
Beadles is the
senior educational consultant for the
American College. His activities in life
insurance education include serving as
national insurance education adviser for
State Farm Life. Beadles was one of the first
two recipients of the Solomon S. Huebner Gold
Medal for outstanding service. He is past
president of the American Risk and Insurance
Association and served as editor of The
Journal of Rick and Insurance for a
number of years.
Beadles
co-authored Principles of Life Insurance and
Law and the Life Insurance Contract with
Janice Greider. Nearly 250,000 copies of
these books have been used in the FLMI
insurance education program. Beadles also
worked with Greider on a chapter in Life
Insurance in Estate and Business Planning
for the Illinois State Bar association.
Currently, Beadles is co-revising Law
and the Life Insurance Contract.
For many
years, Beadles served as a faculty member at
Illinois Wesleyan University. He held the
positions of dean of the college of liberal
arts, vice president and dean of the
university, chairman of the division of
business and department of insurance, and
professor of insurance, emeritus. He received
the first teacher-of-the-year award at the
university. The university also named a men’s
residence hall after him.
Beadles holds
a master’s degree in economics from the
University of Illinois and an honorary
doctorate in business administration from
Simpson College.
"With the
possible exception of Dr. Solomon S. Huebner,
no one has made a greater contribution to the
field of insurance education than Dr.
Beadles," commented William H. Rabel,
Ph.D., FLMI, CLU, vice president and director
of the institute. "Beadles has exerted a
powerful influence on several generations of
students, and the institution of life
insurance has been strengthened by his
work."
